Hi Rachel – another great review! I haven’t seen Mamma Roma in years, but it’s always been one of my favourite Pasolini movies – now I’ll have to watch it again!
Thank you very much Nigel – I’m glad you enjoyed it! And yes, do see Mamma Roma again if you get the chance. Perhaps you can write a few lines on it and we can discuss it again soon :)
Rachael, as always you have found something I would never have considered on my own and thru your words given me the desire to see this movie. Thank you, Bill
Great review of one of the director’s best works. Always a pleasure to see Anna Magnani on screen, giving one of her compelling performances.
Best wishes, Pete.
Yes, Anna Magnani really is a joy to watch. Her acting style is such a remarkable combination of high drama and sensitive authenticity. Thank you for your comment Pete.
Typically, Pasolini isn’t my cup of tea, but this one sounds interesting. Best of all, it’s refreshing to see European cinema covered at a classic movie blog. I love Golden Hollywood, but there were classics elsewhere in the world, too!
Yes, Pasolini isn’t for everyone, but I think that Mamma Roma is definitely one of his warmest and most approachable films. And thank you – I’m glad to hear that the range of films represented is appreciated!
Nice. There’s a biopic about Pasolini’s death in production now. Abel Ferrara, Willem Dafoe. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3125652/
I hadn’t heard; thanks for the link!
Thank for following my blog. I love movies and people who write about them.
No problem John! I look forward to hearing more from you.
Great director–nice post :)
Thanks!
